The 2024 Lok Sabha elections witnessed a minor decrease in the number of women elected, with 73 securing seats compared to 78 in the previous 2019 elections. Among the states, West Bengal emerged as the frontrunner, sending 11 female representatives to the Lower House of Parliament.

Notable women leaders from various political parties include Mahua Moitra of the TMC, Dimple Yadav of the SP, Supriya Sule of the NCP (SP), Kanimozhi and Dr Thamizhachi Thangapandian of theDMK, and Jothimani of the Congress party have been elected from the INDIA bloc.

Prominent figures from the BJP including actress-turned-politician Hema Malini, actress Kangna Ranaut, and Misha Bharati, have also been elected to the Lok Sabha.

Kangana Ranaut, a former Bollywood actress who ventured into politics, was sworn in as a member of Parliament during the inaugural session of the 18th Lok Sabha. Ranaut secured a decisive win in the Mandi constituency, where she triumphed over Congress’s Vikramaditya Singh.

TMC MP Mahua Moitra emerged victorious in the Krishnanagar constituency, defeating the BJP’s candidate, Amrita Roy. This electoral success guarantees Moitra’s place in the Lok Sabha after she was expelled from the Lower House of Parliament in the cash-for-query case.

Hema Malini, a veteran actor who ventured into politics, will become the MP from Mathura Lok Sabha constituency for the third consecutive time. She defeated her Congress rival, Mukesh Dhangar. In the previous Lok Sabha election held in 2014,

Shambhavi Choudhary, a member of the Lok Janshakti Party and the daughter of Ashok Choudhary, who serves as a minister in Nitish Kumar’s cabinet in Bihar, emerged victorious in the Samastipur constituency.

S Jothimani, the Congress candidate, triumphed in the 2024 Lok Sabha election, securing her position as the reelected representative from Karur constituency. She faced stiff competition from 53 other candidates but managed to garner approximately five lakh votes.

Samajwadi Party’s Dimple Yadav secured victory in the Mainpuri parliamentary byelection on Thursday. She defeated her opponent, Raghuraj Singh Shakya from the BJP, by a substantial margin.

Kanimozhi, the DMK candidate from Thoothukudi Lok Sabha constituency, secured a resounding victory with an impressive margin of 3,93,908 votes, surpassing her own record from the 2019 Lok Sabha election, where she had won by a margin of 3.47 lakh votes.
