The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has extended his greetings to His Holiness Dalai Lama on the occasion of his 89th birthday. Shri Modi also wished quick recovery to His Holiness Dalai Lama from knee surgery. He prayed for good health and long life to His Holiness Dalai Lama.

Who is the Dalai Lama?

The Dalai Lama is the spiritual leader of the Tibetan people and the head of the Gelug school of Tibetan Buddhism. He is considered the embodiment of Avalokiteshvara, the Bodhisattva of Compassion, and is believed to be the reincarnation of the previous 13 Dalai Lamas.

Religion:
The Dalai Lama represents Tibetan Buddhism, a branch of Vajrayana Buddhism that originated in India and developed in Tibet.
