Why in News ?
The Indian Navy’s Annual Safety Review-2024 (ASR-24) is in the news as it marks the 7th edition of the navy’s apex meeting on safety. The review was conducted at the Southern Naval Command in Kochi on July 19, 2024.
Key Highlights:
- Robust Safety Culture: Chief of Naval Staff, Adm Dinesh K Tripathi, emphasized the need to build a robust safety culture by encouraging units to educate and train personnel to think and act safely.
- Safety Initiatives and Challenges: All three Naval Commands, including the Andaman & Nicobar Command, presented a brief on safety initiatives and challenges.
- Best Safety Practices: Attendees interacted with subject matter experts from Nuclear Safety and Aviation Safety domains to glean best safety practices.
- Safety Exhibition: A safety exhibition was held at Naval Base, Kochi, where eight firms exhibited state-of-the-art safety gears and personal protective equipment.
Objective:
The Indian Navy conducts the safety review at the apex level every year, with the objective of taking stock of all aspects concerned to operational and functional safety whilst identifying and institutionalizing steps to reduce occurrence of incidents and provide an organizational framework to strengthen safety culture.
